Integrity and Pride

"I I pledge this day, with Integrity and Pride,
My continued support for the Spirit of Nativity:
A Spirit of community not selfishness;
A Spirit of respect for each person I encounter;
A Spirit of dignity for who I am;
A Spirit of responsibility for who I will become and
How I will act in service of others in need;
May this Spirit grow in me today and
May the Spirit of Nativity forever thrive!"
(Pledge of Nativity )

Each day one of the very first things we do in camp as well as at school is say this pledge, hoping that we will act accordingly to it throughout a say. This year at camp two words are particularly important for us: Integrity and Pride. They are the overall theme of camp. All of us are striving to act with integrity, and to be proud of what we accomplished at the end of the day. Moreover, each of the 5 weeks of the camp has its own theme, around which we focus during the morning assembly, times of prayer, group discussions, and night talks. Those themes of the weeks are the 5 characteristics of a Graduate of Nativity at Graduation:
  • Open to Growth,
  • Loving,
  • Committed to Doing Justice,
  • Religious,
  • Intellectually Competent.
The first week is especially focused on being Open to Growth, by trying new things, being open to others, looking for chances to help others and growing in different dimensions. Hopefully by the end of the week and especially by the end the camp we can get ourselves used to looking and using any chances for growth we can - for example by doing math worksheets.
